The Basilica of Saint Lawrence is a titanic, 12th century Romanesque-Gothic basilica located in Rome, Italy. It was founded in 1063 by Pope Nicholas II and dedicated to the patron saint of Roman lawgivers and physicians. The church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The basilica has an irregular plan, with a nave of six bays and a transepts crossing the width of the building. The west front has three portals, each topped by a crescent; above these is a large rose window. The interior is richly decorated with frescoes, including scenes from the Life of Saint Lawrence and the miracles of Saint Catherine of Siena. The high altar is decorated with a mosaic depicting the Last Supper.

Pope Nicholas II took considerable inspiration for the design of the Basilica from the Abbey of Saint Martin at Tours, France.

Construction began on the Basilica in 326 and was completed in 846. The Basilica is composed of three main parts: the nave, the aisles, and the transepts. The nave is 83 meters long and 30 meters wide, while the aisles are each 18 meters wide. The transepts are each 24 meters wide. There are also four subsidiary chapels, including that of Saint Anne. The floor plan of the Basilica follows that of a Latin cross with a large central area known as the crossing.
